Process Control Technician - HELPS PROGRAM*

Located in the Department of Environmental Facilities – Yonkers: Under general supervision, the incumbent is responsible for process control activities and laboratory research in a large, wastewater treatment plant with the activated sludge process. The incumbent makes recommendations to maintain and improve plant processes. Oversight may be exercised over laboratory and operating personnel. Does related work as required.

*THE DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL SERVICE HAS DEVELOPED A HIRING PROGRAM THAT STREAMLINES THE APPOINTMENT PROCESS TO ALLOW AGENCIES TO HIRE DIVERSE, QUALIFIED PERMANENT EMPLOYEES QUICKLY AND WITHOUT EXAMINATIONS. EMPLOYEES HIRED UNDER THE HELP PROGRAM WILL BE APPOINTED ON A PERMANENT BASIS. THE HIRING FOR EMERGENCY LIMITED PLACEMENT (HELP) PROGRAM TEMPORARILY REMOVES THE CIVIL SERVICE EXAM REQUIREMENT FOR THIS TITLE.

Possess and maintain a Grade 3A Wastewater Plant Operator’s Certificate issued by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and two years experience which involved the testing and analysis of water/wastewater.

Depending on work assignment, must meet standards of OSHA regulation(s) 1910.132-140 - Personal Protective Equipment, and will be required to meet Federal, State and local standards with respect to health and safety.

1. The number of years of experience required in the minimum qualifications is based upon the presumption of full-time employment. Part-time experience will be prorated based on a 35 hour workweek.
2. Verified and documented volunteer (unpaid) experience will only be credited when specifically allowed by the job description or examination announcement.
