Job Description
Under general supervision, an incumbent of this class operates automated equipment with an alphanumeric keyboard to enter, verify or retrieve data using various formats and source documents in an on-line automated system, as well as performing a variety of clerical duties such as maintaining office records and files; providing information to the public or to visitors regarding office services; answering telephones and taking messages; preparing or processing forms related to office activities. Supervision is not a regular responsibility of this position; however, incumbents may provide guidance to lower level clerical staff. Does related work as required.
*THE DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL SERVICE HAS DEVELOPED A HIRING PROGRAM THAT STREAMLINES THE APPOINTMENT PROCESS TO ALLOW AGENCIES TO HIRE DIVERSE, QUALIFIED PERMANENT EMPLOYEES QUICKLY AND WITHOUT EXAMINATIONS. EMPLOYEES HIRED UNDER THE HELP PROGRAM WILL BE APPOINTED ON A PERMANENT BASIS. THE HIRING FOR EMERGENCY LIMITED PLACEMENT (HELP) PROGRAM TEMPORARILY REMOVES THE CIVIL SERVICE EXAM REQUIREMENT FOR THIS TITLE.
Required
Possession of a high school or equivalency diploma, and one (1) year of work experience which involved the use of automated systems.
Substitutions
Satisfactory completion of 30 credits or one year of post high school education at a college or business school may be substituted for the one year of required experience.
Notes
- The number of years of experience required in the minimum qualifications is based upon the presumption of full-time employment. Part-time experience will be prorated based on a 35 hour workweek.
- Verified and documented volunteer (unpaid) experience will only be credited when specifically allowed by the job description or examination announcement.
Special Notes
Education beyond the secondary level must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education.
